123Klan is a French graffiti crew, founded in 1992 by husband and wife team Scien and Klor. Since 94 the crew has grown in size and dabbled with computers, fusing graphic design with their graff, and vice versa. Bold and sparse use of colour, sharp edges, whack characters and strong messages, the result is a fresh and unique style they can call their own.
Currently residing in Montréal, Canada – 123Klan’s studio has found a niche specialising in character illustration, branding, toy design, and touring the world speaking at creative conferences (I was lucky enough to catch Scien and Klor present in Sydney 2003, beers were consumed, Newtown was tagged). Their client list extends to the likes of Nike, Adidas, Lamborghini, Coca Cola, Stussy, Sony and more.
From their about page:
We don’t do marketing, we are free like the soup dragons, we don’t care about your needs, we lie all the time, we are lazy, stubborn, super confident, arrogant but unfortunately super talented, we’ll tell you bullshit to make you feel confident, we’ll maybe work for you if you have enough money but drunk, we don’t care about the opportunities you will give us to work for you even if you own a big brand because you need our skills to look young and fresh.
So if we decide to work for you, you are the lucky bastard.

‘The great thing about graffiti is its impact on the streets. But most of people don’t like graffiti, simply because they don’t understand it. In a city you have probably less graffiti than advertising, and most of it is certainly uglier than certain graffiti pieces – so to come up with something that gets an impact on people in this visual jungle, it is a real challenge’ – Scien
