Sliding sideways, tonnes of smoke, extreme corner entries and high exit speeds are what I love about a great drift event and Round 2 of the Australian GP delivered just that.
It had it all! Promo girls, bikini car wash, Stunz inc motorbike demos, trade stall, time attack, and a show n shine organised by hardtuned.com.
Held at the Queensland Raceway on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th of October it brought some of the most talented drivers out to compete. Judges had a hard job trying to work out which drivers had the best line, angle, speed, amount of smoke and show factor in the top 32 knock out battle.
All the big names were in attendance such as Fink, Vahoumis, Kenneally, Harrison, Boettcher and Paraskevas. Some amazing cars were out to play such as Eugene Andersen’s Soarer and Levi Clarke’s Skyline R32.4; no matter how many times I see these two cars competing they catch my eye every time! Tony Harrison debut his new Nissan 180sx as well as Rob Whyte’s new Nissan 350z/380r; there were so many great cars to see!
The Achilles drift team from Western Australia were a force to be reckoned with pulling together some very exciting sideways action. The youngest driver Dan Rasell had the crowd cheering with his extreme backward entries into the first corner; I couldn’t stop laughing when his onevia clipped the track rope and then continued to drag it around the whole track while still drifting! He was such a crowd pleaser coming around for the 2nd time he through a piece of the rope out his window while the car was still flying sideways around the corner; what a young talent this kid is at only 17.
Another young gun Dylan Andersen who has only just turned 18 (one of my favourite drifters) was also giving the older drivers a run for their money in his Nizzpro Performance Nissan Skyline.
As the event powered on the top 32 were cut down to top 16; and then 8. The final tandem battles were impressive and had everyone’s adrenalin pumping to find out who would take the crown for number 1.
As the second day was coming to an end the final 4 were: Luke Fink, Josh Boettcher, Andrew Paraskevas and Anthony Bilic. What an end to a weekend; Paraskevas and Bilic were fighting for 3rd place with Paraskevas taking it out leaving Luke Fink and Josh Boettcher in the running for number 1.
Yet again you can’t fault this guy’s driving technique in the Holfords S14; Fink no stranger to being number one stole the show.
This was such a great event and I am so excited about seeing what the organisers do with it next year! I would like to thank the team at Nizzpro Performance once again for including me in their pit crew team as their promo girl; I enjoyed it so much and had a great weekend!
