I’ve been counting down for another Archerfield drift event so I was very excited when Sunday 30th of October was finally here.
Round 4 of the Kumho Tyres Drift Car Super Series hit the go kart track hard bringing out some very exciting drift battles with over 30 pro and L2 drivers going head to head.
The atmosphere is addictive at this track! I think the Archerfield drift track is one of the best; it’s a small track so the drivers may not get up to the speeds they could on a big track such as Queensland raceway, but all the action is so close to the spectators.
QLD champions Dan Kenneally in his Silvia ute and Eugene Anderson in his Soarer were out in force. Dan who is usually a regular on the winning podium unfortunately did not place in this round due to taking out a massive amount of tyres in an epic spin out; but it did provide me with an excellent photo opportunity.
I loved the tandem runs; it’s amazing to watch the lead car avoiding the chasing car and at the same time executing an ideal drift.
One battle had the judges calling re-run after re-run when Tony’s S13 and Kris’ S13 went head to head; you could not fault these two drivers and their tandem runs were impressive. It left the judges trying to find the slightest fault in their driving with Tony stealing 2nd place leaving Kris for 3rd in the L2 division.
The Nizzpro team also showed some impressive driving with Justin Fanki placing 2nd in the pro comp. It was an exciting battle between two very talented drivers for the pole position with Rob Whyte in his new drift 350z stealing 1st place.
To promote the Archerfield tracks new go kart hire they allowed some of the pro drivers to take the karts out during the break; what a laugh seeing the pro drifters in their full racing suits chasing each other around in the go-karts.
I must admit that when the competition was over, and the pressure from the judges was gone we saw some of the best drifting from the drivers when they took passengers out in the expression session.
It was a beautiful day with some excellent drifting; how else would you want to spend a Sunday!
