The first of February saw the second ever “Custom Cars & Coffee” event held here in Melbourne. Having attended both events thus far, I can confidently say that CC&C has quickly become my favourite automotive event in Melbourne. It genuinely offers the most diverse array of cars I’ve ever seen in Australia- wonderfully refreshing seeing as most meets around seem to be dedicated or even segregated into given car styles (whether this is a good or bad thing though, is another topic of discussion entirely).
It’s the diversity of cars that has largely made me fall in love with this event. Along with the good-behaviour of all in attendance, the family-friendly atmosphere and the coffee and food trucks present; it really makes for the perfect car lover’s day.
Saw Aidan, an old friend, and his awesome Autech S15 at the show. I hadn’t seen the car in about a year, but was happy to see that it was coming along tremendously. Aidan and his S15 are making some serious lap times, especially for a naturally aspirated SR; keeping and even breaking pace with some of the boys from Team Nakama and some other well-known names within the Australian circuit circles. I hope to see more of Aidan and his car in the future.
It seems to be an unpopular opinion of mine, but C63s have never been anything to tickle my fancy in the slightest. This 507 Wagon however, I maintain, is the only C63 I will ever look twice at.
Another neat thing about CC&C is its location at Sandown Raceway. The action on track, provided by an MSCA track day, provided a bit of extra entertainment for anyone who felt the need for a change after looking at stationary cars. Most of the cars were old MG’s, MX5’s and Jaguars- with a sole Mclaren MP4 that we spotted a few times around the track.
This Veilside-kitted Murcielago was definitely something different and was drawing crowds around it throughout the day. I did, however, get the inkling that the owner didn’t quite know what he had in his possession when he told an admirer that it had “a beautiful LP-670 kit on it”.
For a while now, I’ve taken the cars parked outside a meet/show as an indicator as to the cars inside. I think these few photos illustrate CC&C’s diversity quite well. A slammed E30 on BBS RS’ parked next to a Caterham, only a few cars away from a handful of GTR’s and an NSX (unfortunately not pictured).
Skylines Australia; as usual, with a massive club presence, bringing nothing but quality cars.
I left around midday just as a few cars decided to bump out and enjoyed a leisurely cruise home down North Road alongside this awesome Torana SLR 5000.
I’m immensely looking forward to future Custom Cars & Coffee events, and wish the organisers the best of luck in keeping it running. For anyone in Melbourne, I highly encourage you to keep an eye out (you can look up the page on Facebook) for Custom Cars & Coffee. There sure aren’t many better ways to spend your Sunday.
