Last Sunday, April 12, saw Melbourne’s third Custom Cars & Coffee event. Last week saw a venue change to the Caribbean Gardens, in Scoresby Melbourne. A less-than-ideal weather forecast and a drive three-times-as-long was not without its hesitations, but as usual, I’m extremely glad I went. The weather held out, and even cleared later in the day making for yet another enjoyable Sunday fit for any Melbourne car lover.
The long road into the Gardens made for an impressive line up of cars. Coming off the freeway, I drove alongside these two Lamborghinis which I imagine would wake almost anyone up in the morning. Not many cars can match the road presence exuded by a Nero Nemesis Aventador.
Once inside the grounds though, one could spend hours strolling around the lawns, littered with Europe’s finest sports and supercars; sitting opposite some of the most iconic American cars of the past 50 years, surrounded by some of Melbourne’s most hardcore Japanese cars.
This e30 wagon was a car I kept finding myself back at. I’d never seen an e30 wagon in person before, and of course the wagon factor makes anything cooler! Its rare body, and its super tidy ITB setup in the engine bay made it one of my personal favourites of the day.
Caleb rocked up in his WRX with his airbag suspension kit fitted mere days prior. Made quite an impression, so perfectly illustrated by that guy pictured on the right there!
This RX8 and S15 were a poignant throwback to my Autosalon days all those years ago, looking like they’d come straight from a time machine out of the mid-2000’s.
Chris arrived in his daily 86 quite late in the morning. As you can see he unfortunately ran into a figurative speedbump with his car, coming in the form of a literal speedbump.
The next Custom Cars & Coffee has already been announced for the 6th of May, back at Sandown Raceway. It may be the last one for a while as we go into the colder months, so I urge you to get down if you can! You’ll definitely see me there!
BONUS!
While at CC&C, a friend let me know about Autobella, an Italian-cars-only show being held at Como Park in South Yarra that same day. So shortly before noon, I drove down for a very brief walk about and some photos.
There were three new Alfa Romeo 4C’s in attendance, offering the first time for me to see them up close. Very pretty little cars, except for those headlights…
…Some major typophobia going on right here.
Those turbo four cylinders also sound very formidable!!!
Enjoy the rest of these photos from the day:
