Finding my zen in motoring started as a young child peering through the glass of a Porsche / Ferrari dealership that happened to be across the road from where I lived at the time. These nightly trips to the shop window developed a lifelong fascination for design and engineering. As fate would have it, a decade later, I would do my high school work experience at this very dealership and pick up a 911 GT3 later in life from the same showroom.
By my twenties I was deeply entrenched in the automotive industry serving my apprenticeship working on Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini cars. Working on and driving these cars at an impressionable age was a visceral experience. With limited financial resources at this stage in life, I gravitated to motorcycling to get my fix outside of work. The weapon of choice was a MV Agusta F4. With radial valve cylinder head design borrowed from Ferrari (essentially forming one bank of a Ferrari V8) and Massimo Tamburini-styled bodywork, this motorcycle ticked every box.
Fast forward to 2024 – 15 years after the first F4, I have been involved with MV Agusta at a dealer level for 11 years. I have found my zen in motor vehicles that combine aesthetic styling with a certain rawness and aural quality in its motoring experience. The Brutale 1000RR Assen and Brabus 1300R Masterpiece Edition provide these attributes in spades.
For our second Find your ZEN Feature (where we feature extraordinary people who have found their ZEN) we shine the spotlight on Sydney based motorcyclist David Song.
David is the Director and Dealer Principal of Moto Machine and runs 2 Sydney based stores; the Royal Enfield global flagship store in Clyde and the MV Agusta, Husqvarna, BRABUS showroom in Marrickville. He’s also not afraid to get the knee down.
We spent a day with David and a couple of his machines at Uno Studios in Alexandria. We hope you enjoy the shots!
