The JDMST End Of Month Meets (EOMM’s) have been running since 2005. We’ve had a LOT of them at the Entertainment Quarter car park, sometimes we’ve been kicked out, other times we’ve managed to get away with loitering (why’s it such a dirty word huh?) but the meet last Tuesday night was perhaps the most dramatic so far, with over 300 cars being kicked out in force by the local Police.
I’m always the one to greet Security and the Police first. I usually tell them the entire story. That I’m responsible for the meet, that it’s a forum of car enthusiasts who like to meet each other offline, in real life, face to face once a month. That we’ve been doing this since 2005, and we often get kicked out. Telling them the entire story usually calms them down, and usually they’ll sympathise with us but it’s not their call to make. If Centre Management says get out, then we have to get the fuck out.
We can’t afford to hire out a proper venue, liability insurance and venue hire adds up to be a few thousand dollars each time.
A combination of force, a traffic jam over 4 floors getting out and the fact that everyone paid $6 to get into the car park had quite a few guys beeping horns, revving engines and talking back to t he Police. Not a good thing but understandable.
Ultimately it was still an epic meet. New faces, old faces and so many amazing cars There’s been a lot of discussion on JDMST, a lot of pictures too. A lot of the new members are fearing that we’ll never be allowed back to this car park again, little do they know we’ve been going back there for years. Just because you get kicked out of a car park doesn’t mean there won’t be any future meets! Culture wins, we’re not doing anything wrong. We’ll forge on as we’ve always done.
