Brisbane JDM meets broke new records last night when well over 700 cars filled up the Queensland Raceway car park on Tuesday 10th of January 2012.

I unfortunately missed the 6:30pm pre-meet in Jinderlee but I heard from others that attended the car park filled up extremely quickly and had later attendees circling to find a park, but when we were making our way towards Queensland Raceway it was evident how big this meet was going to be; there were mass amounts of JDM and Euro styled cars all heading in the same direction as far as the eye could see.

When we arrived at the entry of Queensland Raceway there was a line up of at least 100 cars in front of us to get in. In all my years of attending Queensland Raceway events such as Fast Fours Jamboree and Powercruise I have never seen a line up like this before.

Once you paid the gold coin donation required to cover public liability insurance you were in and ready to park up. I don’t even think organisers anticipated this many cars because when we arrived at 7:15pm the lit up area was already full of cars and we were directed to the other side of the canteen where there wasn’t much lighting.

This JDM meet definitely kicked off the New Year in style and in terms of size would give the NSW and Victoria meets a run for their money. I think this is only a taste of things to come for Brisbane!

    It was an amazing turnout and was awesome to be a part of, very well done to the organisers!!! However, your part about it being bigger than Jamboree and Powercruise, maybe by today’s standard, but you obviously never attended the late 90’s early 2000’s(1 day) Jamboree’s when the traffic used to be at a stand still all the way back along the highway until the Oz Fuels servo on top of the hill at Yamanto about 8km back from Willowbank….those were the days!!!

      i think also the fact that last night was 700 cars coming through narrow gates in a two hour period, whereas the other events people filter in over a longer time frame – less line up! still immense though.

    I have only attended Jamboree and Powercruise the past 5 years running; I wish I could have seen the events in the late 90s/early 2000s when the line up was so massive it brought traffic to a stand still… it would have been amazing to see!

    How ever the point I was trying to make in the article was only suggesting it was amazing to see that many cars flooding in during a small space of a couple of hours. Obviously big events such as Jamboree & Powercruise have a constant flow of cars arriving through out the duration of the event.

      I knew what you meant, wasn’t being narcky, was just wanting to say about Jamboree 10+ years ago being HUGE….but yes it was crazy the amount of cars JDMST pulled in in just a few hours, just crazy! Looking forward to the next one for sure!

      Jamboree of old was when it was a 1 day and the hype was massive about it that everyone wanted to be there for the whole day and tried to be there for when the gates opened so it caused traffic chaos….now days it’s lost the hype and people just rock up throughout the day because you are likely to see everything anyway….they should take it back to 1 day for sure!!!

      But anyway congrats JDMST/Downshift, these meets are a big reminder of what it used to be like!

    i did not think that it would be this many, so keen for some more meets closer to the GC, some much fuels gone just to park up!

      I think they’re hoping for some on track type events in the future, this was mostly a tester.
