The words “open book” get thrown around a lot, along with “these days”. So you can only imagine our surprise when walking right into a modern day workshop, with nothing but top shelf parts, tools, machinery and race cars on display.
Riverside Racing is located about 30min West of Melbourne’s CBD. They’re a shop which specialises in building Race Cars but more specifically Sports Sedans. These guys are like a museum of Racing’s Current and Racing’s Past. There isn’t a corner, draw, shelf or lift without something mind blowingly incredible on or in it.
We were overwhelmed with the endless amounts of things to photograph when walking into Riverside Racing so we thought it would be best to let Liam Hill, a full-time piece of the furniture at Riverside, go in deeper and explain what we’re looking at through the lens of Ved Kay of Selectnine. Enjoy the following shots.
Alloy Cleveland, only a handful of these blocks in Australia, build date is 1968. Yates C3 heads with a Kinsler fuel injection set up, destined for Gary’s Detomaso Pantera.
RCR valve covers for that Riverside Racing touch.
Mid mount RCR engine, Forgeline wheels with titanium bolts, top of the line Ohlins, billet uprights/ knuckles.
BMW passenger compartment, Motec m800, pdm, dry sump tank with internal heaters.
Holinger sequentials, all our sports sedans run these, though not all are as lucky as the BMW which gets a Holinger remote shifter.
Cobra valve covers for the XP ute thats hidden away, nice little 289ci.
Brand new Mustang lurking above an old war horse.
Under construction, raw fab and bare fibreglass.
Ex Glen Seton Peter Jackson EF, then converted to the Ford Credit EL, now powered by a Roush Nascar engine, tyres are disposable.
Mustang’s engine, Roush racing.
Some of the Hyundai’s Enkeis that were laying around, these are 18×10.5 wrapped in 265 Pirelli slicks.
Hyundai sits on 4 way adjustable Penske shocks and Eibach springs.
Pace Innovations VE Supercar diff, live axle, camber and toe adjustable via rod ends, all chrome molly, crazy light!
Rotors are disposable, 370×34 and 345×34.
Ex V8 Supercar magnesium wheel. 17×11!
Carbon Monaro, 2m+ wide, 700hp mid mounted, molly chassis, lots of aero going on, GT3 Lambo rear wing, 18×13″ rear wheels, 18×12 fronts.
Ex Supercar switch ‘tower’, would be early 2000’s era from a Ford.
Ex Ford performance racing airboxes, really take well to being adapted into bespoke race cars.
Monaro brake package, heat is a major performance gain, the caliper is a PFC 4 piston monoblocks, one of the best calipers available.
Fabricated uprights / knuckles with carbon kevlar brake ducts.
It goes to show, there really are hidden gems in Australia. A place with NASCAR motors, AP Racing Calipers, Holingers, OZ Racing Wheels, Carbon Fibre everything and a million and one rose joints in stock and on shelves really does exist. Somewhere historic race cars can be born again, and the dreams of any racer can be designed, fabricated, engineered, tested and perfected.
We’d like to thank Riverside Racing for opening their book for us, and for all of you!
