Earlier this year a few friends of Zen co-created a facebook group dedicated to all individuals who love sneakers, street wear and urban culture in Australia.
The facebook group allows like minded people to connect, discuss and show off their sneakers as well as buy and sell genuine sneakers (no fakes allowed!).
We thought we’d ask a few of the more prominent Kickz Stand members to explain in their own words what sneaker freaker culture is and just why they’re so into sneakers.
You own cars. I own sneakers. The smell and feel of lacing up a brand new pair of sneakers cannot be trumped! We line up. People actually camp out in the weather, in front of stores waiting for a release. Just last month Melbourne got 24 pairs of a limited shoe. Foot Locker was releasing on Saturday. People had started lining up on Tuesday. Thursday night the allocation of pairs were gone… and people kept lining up. It’s like crack.

Sneaker Culture to me is all about ones way to express themselves through their kickz. Representing themselves as an individual and their style! PS. I love Jordan 3s!

To me, collecting sneakers is just like any other hobby. We put forward a lot of time and energy towards this hobby. Just as I’ve done with my past car, it’s a way to express our selves. My entire world doesn’t revolve around sneakers. I have priorities in life, but collecting sneakers is a side gig that I truly enjoy.

I don’t collect shoes because I’m a sneaker addict. I collect shoes because it’s part of my lifestyle. For me it’s all about the fashion and culture of the scene which represents me best as an individual.

To me sneakers is a way to show people my personality, most of the time I show my emotions through which pair or colorway of sneakers I’m wearing. I love wearing sneakers no matter what type of occasion it is. Sneakers aren’t everything to me, but definitely a big part of my style.
