SubiNats reached out and invited Nick and I to their annual event at Sydney Motorsport Park (SMSP) and we were more than happy to oblige! These guys are grass roots, hosting their first event in 2014 at Wakefield Park and now becoming the absolute “must go to” event for all Subaru enthusiasts nationwide. We’re talking SMSP here, that’s as massive as it gets and what’s truly awesome is that the event was free for all spectators; free entry, free parking too!
I made a post promoting the event on ZEN socials encouraging people to get off their keyboards, and to get their butts to an event to meet passionate like-minded people. If you build it they will come though, and it was awesome to see so many people in attendance yesterday.
Having not been to a meet in a while I was surprised to see so much diversity in the Subaru scene on the day. I’m used to seeing more of an umbrella JDM culture when it comes to car modifications, but what I saw yesterday was much more a mish mash of all sorts of cultures, and hey, I liked it!
Was a rad day out. The SubiNats team should be so proud of what they’ve created and I’m truly glad I got off the couch to check it out.

Nick was my wingman for the day. I just recently bought an 85mm lens, first lens I’ve bought since 2015. I thought I’d force myself to use it at SubiNats, and yeah, 100% I struggled with not being able to fit things in frame like I can with a 35mm. Was a fun challenge though!
One of the most fun things to do at Tokyo Auto Salon is to dedicated a few hours to checking out the awesome rides in the carpark, same goes for SubiNats!
I have a massive soft spot for 2-door WRX’s.
Unicorn spotted! Got to love the pumped guards on the 22B.
Always have to stop to appreciate an NSX.
Beer stop is a must.
Cars lining up to hit the track.
Is that a… Vortex? I have a photo of me as a kid at the Sydney Motor Show posing in front of one of these!
Years on it’s awesome to see so many cars on the day rockin’ the JDM plates which we designed for myPlates NSW. Still pinching myself that it’s a thing tbh. Click here if you’d like to know more about how we made it happen.
So awesome that everyone participating in the Show’n’Shine gets to do some laps around the track. For many, it might be the very first time they’ve ever taken a car out on a race track, and we’re talking SMSP here, a track of international quality.
The beast, my 4th, or is it my 5th? Honda Jazz. The ultimate appliance!
Obligatory rolling shot as we head home. Great vibes, great event! Much thanks to SubiNats for inviting us out. Perfect way to spend our Saturday!
