Saturday, I woke to my alarm on a more-than-brisk Melbourne morning after a solid week of 4pm-midnight shifts. In the midst of what the news was calling an “arctic cold front”, and an embarrassingly wounded car (thanks to a metal tray Falcon ute who decided to try and park where was no parking bay at work), I had more than enough reasons to stay in bed.
But it was the second Saturday of the month, and that meant it was time for Cars & Coffee.
Arriving once again at the RoadTrackRally skidpan, I was honestly expecting a much smaller turnout than last month. However pulling up and being marshaled to park at the end of the a (with the gouge in my car facing outwards…. -_-) , I found things to be in full swing, with new cars arriving seemingly as soon as another left.
It was another great morning , made greater by so many car-nuts who also chose to brave the cold.
Noticed a new set of wheels on Melbourne’s only (if I’m not mistaken) Mazda Autozam. It was very possibly the coolest car there, with a consistent curious crowd of people around it all morning. If ever there was anything that so perfectly encapsulated the hopeful next-millennium Japanese design of the late 80s/early 90s, surely it has to be this.
I’ve always had the curious idea of a slammed Vito in the back of my mind. Glad to see it works so well in real life!
Me and a few friends weren’t the only ones admiring this little NA, as it seems a fellow showgoer had left a kind note under the wiper.
…And my dad tells me my “car is too low”…
One of a few Porsches in attendance, this ’82 Carrera SC (can any resident Porsche afficionados confirm?) was definitely my favourite.
I remember this A5 from 100mm’s Dynokhana event a while ago. Then with OEM silver paint, and a set of crazy-sized BBS LM’s, it sits here with new paint, a set of S1R’s and a funky wrap on the roof. I’ve seen few brown cars in my time, and fewer still that I’ve liked. Thought this A5 was very cool!
I’ve seen this Impreza at a number of events and meets around Melbourne and it never fails to make an impression. Yesterday I saw it bearing a swag of new parts from the rad guys at LikeWise, a chrome “Finger Banger” shifter and their signature “Thug Nuts” wheel nuts.
Stepping inside the warehouse out of the cold, one could purchase a much needed hot coffee or bacon and egg sandwhich, or a neat keychain or t-shirt from one of the few stalls set up. There was also a jumping castles for the little ones.
Oh and there were also a bunch of insane racecars lying around too…
Again, thanks to Cars & Coffee Melbourne its organisers for continuing to put on this event. As I said in my write up from last month, I honestly don’t know what took me so long to come out.
For those in Melbourne, stay up to date on their Facebook page, and come out on the second Saturday of the month if you can.
You’ll definitely be seeing me there again!
