VK Calais on VS-XX

Commodores were the cars I grew up around which ultimately sparked my passion for all things automotive. Both my dad and brother were mechanics with my brother owning a V8 VK plus a Supercharged V8 VS and dad owning and restoring several Commodores and Toranas. So I didn’t hesitate when Daniel reached out and asked if I could take a few photos of his car.

After racing home to charge the battery of my brand new 5D Mark III, I was shortly greeted with a stunning teal blue VK Calais painted by 2SUS Customs. Battery half-charged, I raced downstairs to the sweet smell of E85 fumes.

Climbing into the back of the well-kept car I quickly grabbed my first shot. I was so excited to finally be shooting full frame! (A huge difference from my previous 700D setup) And the interior of this 1985 VK is surprisingly in excellent condition despite it being a 30 year old car!

The bold exterior truly sets this car a part from the rest and en route to location we even had a kid stopping in the middle of the road just to take a photo!

One thing that really appealed to me was how Daniel has incorporated a touch of Japan to this Australian chassis by choosing a set of 19 inch gunmetal VS-XX Work Wheels.

The tasteful silver polished lips suit the two-toned car to a T!

To keep a clear eye on things Daniel’s placed a set of Auto Meter gauges on the exterior of his car.

And yep you guessed it, Daniel is running an RB30 under the hood.

The turbo VL motor is pushing a nice 551Hp/411Kw and has a flex-fuel tune which is monitored by a Haltech Platinum Sport 2000. The full rebuild includes forged pistons and rods, ported head with mild cam, 1mm oversized valves with upgraded springs, a GT3582 on 6boost exhaust manifold, Plazmaman inlet manifold and 3 1/2 inch exhaust.
